Make Up Your Mind Usher!

Usher released a statement concerning his management recently:

Usher has dissolved his management arrangement with Benny Medina and has re-engaged Jonnetta Patton as his manager

He is now working with his mother who he “retired” a few years back. We bet Jonetta Patton is saying a silent “I told you so.”

Benny Medina also released a statement:

With an artist like Usher, the bar is set really high. Whether it was management, marketing or the music, we achieved a number one single and a number one album. It is a completely new day and time in music now. In four years, his audience, demographic, and musical direction has changed. Records like Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ are the type of phenomena that ‘Yeah’ was in 2004. I had a great time and we parted ways amicably

Papa Ursh

In the new Essence Usher chats it up with Hill Harper about his experiences as a husband and father. If you care enough to read a snippet from the article help yourself…

HILL HARPER: In the last year, you got married and you’ve had a baby. Which has changed you more?
USHER:
They’re both linked—I can’t have one without the other. But the one thing that changed me the most is having a wife. Our child is an extension of that union.

HARPER: Why?
USHER:
Because now I represent what he is to become. He’s gonna admire me, he’s gonna look up to me. He’s gonna say, “I wanna be”—or he should say— “I wanna be like my father. I wanna be a man of valor. I wanna possess what my father has as a man.” To get married was a choice. To have a child is a responsibility.

HARPER: Does that new responsibility challenge you to make music that is more responsible?
USHER:
I started making Here I Stand before I had my son and before I was married. It was a deliberate choice to make music with substance, not just about the things that we’re accustomed to—music about being the celebrity, the player, or having the car, the girl and the bling.

ATL Urban Showcase

Hotlanta! Usher, Ciara, Lil Wanye, Teyana Taylor, and others came out to the Urban Showcase for unsigned artist.

Usher didn’t perform but his name attached to the event more than likely brought a crowd in. He probably showed his face for 10 minutes and got a $50,000 check!
