I was different. Nia Long and her horrid prom dress were on the red carpet for the Michael Awards. She had the nerve to show up for a fashion award ceremony wearing that?

After 25 years, Vanessa Williams will finally receive her bachelor of fine arts degree from Syracuse University . Talk about a long time coming.

The 45-year-old star “Ugly Betty” will also address the graduates.

The actress-singer attended Syracuse’s drama department as a musical theater major from 1981-1983. She left after making history in 1983 by becoming the first black Miss America. But she turned in her crown in July 1984 after Penthouse magazine published nude, sexually explicit photographs of her taken several years earlier.

The entertainer went on to sell more than 4 million albums, star on Broadway and appear in dozens of television shows and films. She has won a Tony, received two NAACP Image Awards and nine Grammy nominations.

She earned the remaining credits for her degree through industry experience and performances on stage and screen.
